Oslo Fjord Cruise

For some mysterious reason I ended up on the invite list of a cruise dinner on the Oslo Fjord. The weather wasn't really that nice but here just a few pictures ... and yes the ugly town hall is taken with an angle ... was hard to find a good spot for the camera ;)

Minerals

Just couldn't resist ;)

Here we have some garnet:

And all this slightly blue-green stuff is apatite - the same mineral your teeth are made of:

The dark bluegreen grains are most likely Winchite:

So that's the place where the apatite is mined:

Russian roads ...

you gotta love them ;)
and this is good condition - really ...

This is what we call a banded iron formation, not that spectacular when it's not red though:

Here is a closer view of the rock ... some parts are red = oxidized ... (geologist noob mistake though - THERE IS NO SCALE!!!!!)

And here we have a spinifex texture ... I just found out that spinifex is also a genus of coastal grasses
(note: there is a shiny coin as scale):

Finally this is the giant's ass print ... well just another of those fluffy pillow lavas:
