Ringebu Stavkirke

The oldest part of the church dates back to the 13th century while transept and the tower are a result of a reconstruction in the 1630s. Archaeologist discovered signs of an older pole church from the first period of Christianisation probably the middle of the 11th century. Under the floor, 892 coins were discovered. Many were from the time of Håkon Håkonsson (1217-1263) and the rest were mainly German, Swedish and Danish coins.
The church would be really nice if it didn't have the church tower painted with red - it just doesn't really fit to a stave church.


The location is very nice and the view on the valley is fantastic.
