Skiing
Finally some snow pictures! For that we had to leave Oslo, of course. We took the train in the direction of Gjørvik to a place called Grua. While we were sitting there and talking, Chrystelle heard the announcement for the next stop and thought that the guy said Grua. So we went to the door but the stop didn't really look like a stop and in addition the sign where the name of the stop should have been was missing. So we didn't really know if we should get out or not and since we were so undecided the train started to move before we could get out. Then while the train was accelerating, we saw some kind of graffiti on another sign which said Grua. Well, we thought ... ok then we just go a stop further and try to ski back and find some other tracks. But it took quite a while until the train stopped the next time so we got out there and we were ...guess... in Grua. After this good laugh, we found the tracks quite easily and started skiing.
Here we are quite enthusiastic:

Not even 3 minutes...
...aaaaaaaaah it is so hard to see them leading 12:7 in the first half and now they are close to losing. Guys - if you win today, I will go to Lillehammer tomorrow - alone- whatever it costs AND I will start to play handball again. Usually I lose these kind of bets - maybe that works.

Finals
So Germany made it in the very last moment to the semi-final in handball (puh that was really tough to follow). Unfortunately nobody here is really interested, I have no TV and I am still debating if I should go to the final in Lillehammer - is it worth it or not? I will see the Germans no matter how they play in the semi-final since they have to play for the 3rd/4th place then.
Unfortunately, Norway didn't make it to the semi-final and they have to play Sweden to try for the 5th place. Anyway since a German flag would be inappropriate - here the Norwegian one ;)

Something in German for a change
Alke bewirft mich mit einem Uni-Stöckchen ... ich hatte schon geahnt, dass ich es bekommen werde, als ich die erste Zeile des Eintrags gesehen hatte ;) Dabei ist Uni doch schon sooooo lange her (das "student", welches hinter dem PhD steht, können wir getrost ignorieren - 10-12 Stunden Tag und Wochenenden durchgearbeitet qualifiziert sich nicht als Student- zumindest halten mich die Leute auch schon alle für einen Postdoc).
Na gut, ich versucht mich zu erinnern ;)
25 Dinge, die man während des Studiums unbedingt tun sollte:
1. Eine Vorlesung schwänzen, um jenseits des Hörsaals noch etwas Sonne zu tanken.
Definitiv. Am liebsten bin ich NICHT in die Geologievorlesungen gegangen, die waren aber auch so langweilig. Allerdings habe ich mehr Vorlesungen nicht besucht, weil ich das Bett vorzog.
2. Dem abgebrannten Sitznachbarn ein Mensaessen spendieren.
Brrrrr Mensa - in Heidelberg war ich fast nie. Hier in Oslo gehe ich in so eine Art Mensa aber ich nehme entweder mein eigenes Essen mit oder gehe direkt zur Salatbar. Spendiert hab ich so einiges aber bestimmt kein Mensaessen.
3. Einem Komilitionen über die verhauene Klausur hinwegtrösten.
Aba sischa.
4. Eine Nacht richtig durchpauken.
Wie bei Alke - vor der Physikklausur. Ich wollte eigentlich gar nicht hingehen aber da gab es so eine Wette um eine Flasche Tequila, wenn ich bestehe. Das Resultat war, dass ich mich dann so gegen 23.00 hingesetzt habe und anfing zu lernen. Der Tequila war gut ;)
5. Am Schnitzeltag in der Mensa Schlange stehen.
Kein Schnitzel UND keine Mensa.
6. Wenigstens einmal im Seminar den Mund aufmachen.
Oft hatte ich keine andere Wahl, da ich immer gefragt wurde.
7. Dem heimlichen Schwarm in eine Vorlesung folgen
Öh?
8. Ein Buch aus der Bibliothek ausleihen.
Also bestimmt nicht nur eines ;)
9. Einem Ersti den Weg zum Seminarraum weisen.
Das tut hier zwar nichts zur Sache aber hier in Oslo werde ich ständig nach dem Weg gefragt(mitten auf der Strasse, von Taxifahrern u.s.w) ... aber im Studium war's ein paar mal bestimmt auch so ;)
10. Einen Ferienjob haben, auf den man später peinlich berührt zurückblicken wird.
Ferien? Wasn das? Vergessen glaub ich ... ich hatte sogar in den Semesterferien einen Hiwi- job aber peinlich berührt? neee
11. Auslandserfahrung sammeln - und sei es nur ein heißer Flirt mit dem Erasmus-Studenten.
Klar - ein Jahr Alaska aber das war glücklicherweise die meiste Zeit NICHT heiss.
12. Ein Referat völlig ohne Vorbereitung halten - und improvisierend bestehen.
Ne das dann doch nicht.
13. Seinem Prof die Meinung sagen.
Nicht oft genug aber trotzdem mal gemacht ;)
14. Sich in einen Komilitonen/eine Komilitonin verlieben.
Also nee, was man nicht alles neben dem Studium gemacht haben soll. Liebe ist nur Einbildung - verlieben kann man sich demnach auch nicht(sorry das ist nur eine persönliche Meinung - nicht dass sich jemand auf den Schlips getreten fühlt - ich akzeptiere selbstverständlich andere Meinungen zum Thema).
15. Sich auf dem Campus verlaufen.
Tatsächlich nicht.
16. Bei einer Prüfung durchrasseln.
Eine Prüfung war es - allerdings keine wichtige - die nannte sich Erstsemesterprüfung oder so ähnlich.
17. Schlittenfahren auf dem Campushügel.
Schlittengefahren nicht, aber Schlittschuhgelaufen auf dem Teich vor der Physik - das war klasse. Vor allem wie die anderen Studis ungläubig geschaut haben ;)
18. Hydeparkmäßig (Speakers’ Corner) auf einer Kiste eine Rede halten.
Reden kann ich eigentlich nicht - einmal war ich mit am Programm fürs Barbarafest beteiligt - ansonsten war es eigentlich immer nur jede Menge Kisten schleppen, Brötchen schmieren und belegen, alles aufbauen, bedienen und dann alles wieder abbauen - so ein paar Jahre lang.
19. Mit dem Prof/ der Professorin flirten, um eine bessere Note zu bekommen.
Was ein Schrott.
20. Eine Toilette mit Klopapier finden.
Das geht hier in Oslo auch einigermassen .
21. Die Studiengebühr privat verschwenden.
Habe keine Studiengebühren bezahlt - ausser diese Verwaltungsgebühr.
22. In einem langweiligen Seminar schnarchend einschlafen.
Ne nich mal ohne Schnarchen.
23. Sich nicht als was Besseres fühlen, nur weil man Student ist.
Ne eher schlechter als besser.
24. Eine Hausarbeit in 24 Stunden schreiben.
Ja und ein 4 Seiten langes Abstract in allerletzer Minute abgeben auch (war aber nicht meine Schuld möchte ich mal betonen).
25. Den ganzen Scheiß hinschmeissen wollen.
Sowieso.
Hm 13 von 25. Immerhin etwas über der Hälfte.

Riddle solved
A few people found this blog because they were searching for "the faces of the Norwegian moose" and I was wondering what the hell that could be ... well you just have to go to a tourist shop and look in the t-shirt section, there you can find:

Rain in January ...
... was something I really didn't expect here in Oslo. It started so nicely with a lot of snow on Sunday the 6th when I was arriving here (it was so late that I could't make use of the snow). The next day the snow became wet, the day after it was so warm that it rained and the snow melted - the city was a big water pond. Then there was half a day of sun and it started to rain again. It was so muddy, snowy wet that I preferred to walk and leave my bike at home.
So instead of pictures of snow I will just upload a few pictures from mid-December when it was actually cold enough to do some ice scating on Sognsvann.

Håndball euro
Something to look forward to quite soon - I am still debating with myself if I should buy tickets for the final in Lillehammer or not ... it is not so far away but I don't want to go alone and I am not really sure if somebody here is enthusiastic about hånball. Well I could have a chance to see the world champion since I didn't see them in my home country - but who knows maybe they don't make it to the final (although hånball is the only sport where I am really for the German team because those guys really give all they have ;)).
The new new year
Happy New Year to you all - I know that I am quite late but first of all I was at home in Germany during that time and I didn't really feel like blogging - I just wanted to spend some time without computer. When I came back I had a new home as well as a new office so this is a perfectly new start into the new year. And funnily enough most of the year is busy already ... I have approximately three (whole) months without any conferences or meetings but I am quite looking forward to that. In addition I had the great priviledge to join two field trips - one in Finnish/Russian Karelia and the other one in Norway. With a bit of luck I might also make it to Vancoucer for a conference - at least I will really try to go there.
